Christine Gibson

Hi, I’m Christine!

Based in the lovely village of Coleorton, I’m a mixed-media artist who swapped the office for the studio — and I’ve never looked back. After years in administration, I craved something more creative and hands-on. Now I spend my days blending colour, texture, and natural elements into pieces that feel alive and expressive.

What I work with

My toolkit is an eclectic mix of paints, embroidery floss, delicate lace, ribbons, dried flowers, textured papers, fabrics, machine embroidery, and good old-fashioned hand sewing. I love painting directly onto fabrics and natural objects to get exactly the tones and effects I have in mind.

Where the ideas come from

Nature is my biggest muse. On my daily dog walks, I’m always gathering fallen cones, acorns, leaves, and flowers that catch my eye. I’m particularly fascinated by the textures you find on branches — moss, mould, unusual seed pods — and I love photographing these tiny details up close. My colour palette reflects the landscapes around me: rich, layered tones blended with earthy, natural hues.

Building the pieces

Textured papers give me another way to play with depth, layering, and structure. I love building dimension into my work, letting each layer tell a new part of the story and create its own visual rhythm.

Treasure hunting

Antique shops are one of my favourite places to explore. Vintage lace, ribbons, and buttons often find their way into my designs, sparking fresh ideas. And if I spot a small furniture piece crying out for a new life? I’m never averse to a bit of upcycling.
